How to reach Lumbini?

All international flights land at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, the only international airport in Nepal. From here visitors have option of taking a road journey or an internal flight.

The internal flight takes 30 minutes to Bhairahawa, an all season airport; from the airport it is 15-minute drive to the Lumbini Buddha Garden. There are regular bus going to Lumbini (you can ride also a bus going to Taulihawa) – you can get down just before you reach Telar River bridge. Your home lies just on the right ! The local bus fare is 20 Nepali rupees from the airport.

For guests arriving from Sunauli, you can take a rickshaw to Lumbini Chok or Buddha Chok. This is a T junction and you can find buses queuing to go to Lumbini. If you reach this place a bit late at night, you can also hire a taxi to drop you off which will cost you only 500 Rs (7 US$). Alternatively you can also call the Garden for help and advice.

There is a tarmac road to Lumbini. From Kathmandu it is a pleasant 7-hour drive.
From Royal Chitwan National Park it is a mere 2-½ hour drive whereas from Pokhara it is a scenic 5-hour drive.
